Deck House in Janda Baik | Habitat-MY Posted: 07 Aug 2013 01:13 AM PDT Janda Baik is a small village in Malaysia that retains its natural rainforest surroundings. Here, the Deck House by Choo Gim Wah sits on a hill that offers its occupants a luxurious escape from the bustling cities. The house consists of two terraced levels along the hill slope, using metal frames and concrete support columns. From the outside, it features large outdoor decks and balconies, and large spans of glass walls facing the surrounding forest. With such a nature-rich location, it is only apt that the design takes full advantage and offers maximum access to the serene and peaceful surroundings. Yet, the house is not without modern features and amenities. Inside the structure, we find modern use of wood materials, white walls, and metal frames and fittings. The living spaces are large and further expanded by glass walls that open into the outdoors when desired. Tastefully furnished and equipped, the Deck House offers modern living in harmony with its location. From the kitchen to living room, and even the bedroom, the spaces flow seamlessly into the woods while offering comfort and security within the building. The open architecture also allows for ideal airflow and natural cooling in the generally warmer Malaysian climate. Being surrounded by lush foliage also offers natural shelter from the sun.
