BBQ Chan Bukit Tinggi, Bukit Tinggi | Vi Vian's Food Blog

BBQ Chan Bukit Tinggi, Bukit Tinggi – This place was highly recommended by a friend. He was so enthusiastic when he spoke about this place. Instead of this write up I should have videod his version. From the ambience to the quality of food to the service, his experience was enviable. Read it here [blog link]. I really wanted to go and experience it myself. He is one good example of how a fellow Malaysian expresses himself when it comes to food.

BBQ Chan in Bukit Tinggi is towards the Genting Highland turnoff where most people detour for food. Genting Highland is not known for its food and the prices are extortionate. Here in Bukit Tinggi, there is also a market selling fresh fruits and vegetables.

First of all the location of BBQ Chan is behind the BHP Petrol station. It is not obvious from the main road. Take the turning next to the station and follow the route. Look for the bright orange/yellow BHP, and go around it to the right hand side.

Menu: there is no folder menu and had I not been recommended what to have by friends, I would not know what to have.

Order: Waiter takes your order.

DSCF9620a Ambience: raining and dark means mosquitoes are out. Also, there were too many flies which is quite annoying when you are trying to have a meal and shoo them away at the same time. Toilet is quite disgusting.

DSCF9619a Not sure if there is a story to these upside down hanging umbrellas. Do you know?

DSCF9623a fresh chillies grown just outside of the restaurant.

Goverment Tax: -

Service Charge: – Our service was very good. I was expecting quite a different scenario, where the waiter was akin to John Cleese in Fawlty Towers. Slightly disappointed but I really should not complain.

Takeaway: -

Parking: Designated space for clients.

DSCF9630a fried egg with tofu RM 8.00 – want to know what is a good quality egg? Then you have to try this. So simple but so good. The eggs might came from their own farm that we saw on our way in to the restaurant.

DSCF9631a roast chicken RM 60.00 – the chicken meat was dry, not impressed with this. It was only after we had the chicken, the waiter came over and told us that it was actually a guinea fowl.

DSCF9633a salt crusted fish RM 34.00

DSCF9635a New Zealand lamb RM 70.00 – half portion – the lamb was good, served with a delicious mint sauce, but it didn't have much of the tenderness and succulence that I associate with NZ lamb.

DSCF9636a fried chillies RM 10.00 – some of these chillies were quite spicy and some were not. Try the tip of the chilli to test how fiery the whole chilli is if you want to be sure of the fieriness first.

DSCF9638a steamed white chicken – another speciality of the BBQ Chan.

Verdict: I quite enjoy the meal although it was not as good as I had thought it would have been. However, it was a good outing for the family and we all left with full tummies.

Card Cafe @ Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang - jkdrooling - Blogger

Posted: 09 May 2014 05:52 PM PDT

The mushrooming of cafes in Klang has been increasingly rapid lately. Being a Klang bred, I can't help but feel happy witnessing the humble hometown of mine gradually turns into a foodie haven with more added choices of cuisines.

I have always told Kingsley that there aren't good Western cafes and restaurants in Klang but now I observe some changes and I hope this doesn't cease because Klang has a poor history of successful Western restaurants. Apparently Klang folks are still rather conservative in terms of food but I wish they're not at the verge of transitioning into a more modern eating lifestyle.

Card Cafe caught our attention recently when it was pre-opened for testing prior to its official launching day. It features a very unique theme of CARDS - something I wouldn't even think of merging it with a cafe.

It has frames hung on the walls with display of the various types of cards. We had a sudden bemusement looking at the cards and they were real, even credit cards!
So how does the food here in card cafe perform?

With the penetration of Western coffees into Klang, I guess the expectation has slightly elevated in both the quality of taste and beauty of coffee arts. Kingsley was doubting if there would be coffee art on the latte we ordered and we were glad the cuppa came pretty. Taste was satisfactorily good except some lacking in vanilla flavour but slightly overpriced for Klang standards perhaps.

The Card Cafe Saucey Meatball (RM10.90)

We really appreciate how Card Cafe put so much effort into their food presentation of which we deem plays quite a vital role to at least boost customers' mood and appetite. However, despite the meatballs being creatively served, we felt they need to improve much on the taste. The meat was too chewy with unchewable gristles that caused Kingsley some frustration. Otherwise, this should be yummy because the BBQ sauce showered along with the meatballs was tasty.

The Card Cafe Penne Pesto (RM13.90)

Kingsley and I rarely have penne paste but I decided for a change that night. We didn't expect much from the pasta after the slightly unpleasant experience with the meatballs but contrastingly, the pasta was good. The homemade creamy pesto sauce was so rich in spices that our taste buds were ignited and craving for more. I like how it was mildly spicy yet didn't burn our tongues. This is highly recommended!

The Card Cafe's Beef Burger (RM14.90)

This homemade burger is made of thick beef patty, caramelized onions, mushroom fries and mix salads. Again I love the presentation here - it looked simply yet appealing. How we wished the taste was as good as the food presentation because the beef patty, just like the meatballs, contained gristles that made the chewing so unpleasant. Sesame bun was good, fries were fine but overall, not something we would recommend.
Conclusively, Card Cafe appears as an amiable cafe that serve Western-styled food items not commonly available in Klang. We can't really foresee if this is going to be a big hit but we look forward to seeing a more welcoming response for Western cafes.
